Inside Catholic Baseball

Have you ever been on the outside of a conversation because you didn’t really understand the words people were using? This happens at OSV a lot because we use a lot of 3 letter acronyms: IOP, PVP, OLG, PCC … when we only use shorthand or ‘big words’ we leave people out! Let’s talk about what that might mean at your parish!

Dicey Conversations

It’s common knowledge (or used to be) that we don’t discuss politics and religion with strangers, family members, first dates, or anyone really. I don’t think that actually helps us though. We need to figure out how to have healthy conversations around these topics because they are important. Conversations that have both sides leaving with their dignity in place!

Millennials & Tithing

Oh TITHING – an 7 letter word that is not only hard to explain and talk about, it’s hard to do. The worth tithe is derived from 1/10th, so 10% of my time (144 minutes or 2 hours, 24 minutes a day), 10% of my talent (how do you even quantify that), and 10% of my treasure (gross or net pay? Assets too?). Is it enough? Am I keeping anything for myself? What if there isn’t enough left over? Are these questions disciples ask?

Get Ready for Vacation

It’s almost summer and that means vacation!! This typically means two things for the church: Your parishioners are away from the parish visiting the beach or the mountains or family members who are far away. Many Catholics are visiting your parish because it’s a great vacation spot or their families have moved to your city….

Inside Catholic Baseball

Are you speaking “Inside Catholic Baseball” in your Parish Communications? Spring Training is coming up so I’ve been thinking about baseball. As a kid I loved going to Pirate games at the old Three Rivers Stadium with my family. It was time I was able to spend with my older brother. I spent the entire game asking questions. What’s…

Finish Your Goals

In January, almost all Americans undertake a collective effort to create a few resolutions. This will be the year I read more, watch less TV, workout every day, lose ten pounds, and reconnect with family and friends. As a parish you might be making some goals as well to meet budget, pray more, or do…

Advent

Advent is a time of preparation and waiting as we prepare for the Birth of our Saviour. Although many times it can be eclipsed by Christmas preparations within the culture we live. Everyone seems to be looking for an escape from the commercialism of Christmas and finding the meaning in the season. The parish can…

Millennials & Stewardship (pt 2)
