A few weeks ago the woman who produces the fitness videos online I like launched a program that’s 21 minutes a day for 2021, and it got me thinking about how we could adapt this for the Church. A Spiritual Exercise program for our faith. Since everyone loves alliteration (you do, right?) I’ve been thinking about a “21 in 21” campaign. If you read my earlier posts about what if they don’t come back and how we need to work on healing the wound even though it’s still bleeding, you know I’m about making a fresh start even though we are still living through the pandemic.
I’m proposing we have a renewal and awakening in 2021. While the pandemic isn’t just “going to go away because the calendar changed,” we can do something about our mindset, our behavior, and our faith. If we don’t, we could lose our Churches.
Now you might think that’s a little dramatic – that if you don’t do this campaign, you’re parish is going to close – that’s not what I’m saying at all. It’s so easy to lose the faith when we ignore it. It’s so easy to get out of the habit of going to Mass, praying the Rosary, sitting for a Holy Hour, setting aside time each day to pray.
So let’s start a revolution in 2021 giving HIM 21 each day, week, or month. I created a graphic if you want to use it – or develop your own plan. As we say when parishes present their final Parish Vision Plans – there’s something for everyone. There’s no wrong way to give your time to the Lord – so commit to how you’ll spend time with HIM in 2021.
Start the campaign, share bulletin articles about how to engage in these practices, renew the a deep love for the Lord within your people this year. If we want to change the world, the way to do that is ONE person at a time, ONE deep relationship with an intentional disciple.
If you do this will you share about it with me and on social media? use the Hashtag #GiveHim21 … can you imagine a world where we all gave the Lord 21 minutes a day in prayer? Even if 21% of Catholics did it? We’d be an unstoppable force for spreading the Gospel!!
