Do you read your parish’s bulletin? From cover to cover? Every single week? Have you ever thought “this could be a lot better”?
Most bulletin editors are church employees who have just fallen into the role because it needed to be done rather than because they have a degree in graphic design. What this means is that most bulletins try to cram as much information as possible into a space that is defined by your bulletin provider.
I saw this article this week and thought it provided a variety of great ideas and inspiration for a refresh of your bulletin.
Some of the highlights are:
- Two Fonts: Choose a header font and a body font to use throughout, and that’s it!
- Embrace White Space: It’s okay to have a little white space! Not every available space for printing needs to have a picture, a piece of clip art, border, or text.
- Avoid Borders: Speaking of borders, just say no!
- Organize Based on Importance: Determine what’s important and feature those advertisements more prominently. And keep things organized … Mass times with Confession Times, Service Opps with Service Opps, etc.
